Aug 2007
In mid-August my 1973 240Z was delivered and sitting in my garage. Unable to start. Gathering dust. I pleaded my case to my local area Z-car expert who kindly came to my rescue. The driver had killed the battery while trying to reset the timing in a parking lot near Clines Corners, NM, so that marked the first purchase specific to the new car.
I recalled that the Illinois driver thought he filled up the tank outside of Clines Corners with bad gas and added numerous octane boosters to the tank - which didn't help. I drained all of the old gas and put in new gas - unfortunately that didn't fix the problem, but it did prove that the tank held 15 gallons of gasoline and there wasn't any crud inside the gas tank. I swapped out the old coil with a new one, as the original coil would get SUPER hot when trying to crank over the car. So much for the easy fixes to get the car running again.
