Jan 2008

This month continued the brake/strut drama; the front left "nipple" that feeds into the brake line was stripped and was badly leaking fluid; I had both front "nipples" replaced and also bought new brake rotors to complete the brake job. The brand new front left Illumina strut was defective out of the box - had to order another one, have it express shipped and now get to fight with Tokico to get that part refunded. The door panel parts that I've accumulated over the past 4 weeks are in preparation for having the mirrors/window cranks replaced - Melloy Nissan's mechanic was 99% sure those parts (to include the actual door panel) would break if removed, so I'm being cautious.

I bought the cowl weatherstripping twice now; the MSA version was cut only halfway into the rubber and my test fit showed that there is no way it would stay put; I bought it again from an eBay vendor who swore his would stay, and it is the same design.. unless there is some magic adhesive I don't know how that item is supposed to stay put.

Have to pull the driver seat (again) to install the plastic reclining mechanism cover and regrease the rails (seat is hard to move back & forth on the rails). New kick panels to replace the old beatup pair that are pressboard. Bought ANOTHER set of floor mats; first pair that I bought from eBay were over 40% too short and a compete waste of money; the ones from MSA had "240Z" embroidered on them and had soundproofing on the backside - HUGE improvement. I'll use the junky eBay set underneath the seats.

Swapped out the wood Momo steering wheel with a new one from MSA that looks awesome and isn't so slick. Not having a heater in the car makes for REALLY cold driving in the morning - even with gloves on the wood steering wheel absolutely froze my hans. Same with the shift knob... problem solved!

Still needing to get the diff mount problem solved; don't know why ANYONE would EVER install a billet mount, as it sounds like I'm ripping the car apart every time I turn left or right. I found a Z-car restorer in California that had a R-200 differential for sale; for a little extra he included the mustache bar and half shafts and will install the 3:90 gear set for much improved acceleration. Planning on having the differential internally looked at thoroughly before it is installed at Meineke.
